The ‘affective filter hypothesis’ (Krashen, 1982) argues that the most favourable learning occurs in a setting of
low anxiety, self-confidence and high motivation. Built on SLA research, the hypothesis states “acquirers with a
low affective filter seek and receive more input, interact with confidence, and are more receptive to the input
they receive”
