Haiti’s justice system remains in disarray with very few of those arrested in the past year having been brought before a judge at all, let alone within 48 hours of arrest as required by Haitian law” (Donais, pg.11). Therefore, to say that the earthquake is the reason for the political struggle in Haiti now would be a gross overstatement. It can be stated to have made it worse however; it cannot be blamed as the sole cause since there was political turmoil before.
