(2007) found that standardized
treatment provided by a multidisciplinary
wound care team saved costs and improved chronic
wound healing in nursing homes. Harris et al. (2005)
compared a nursing-led inpatient unit to a usual care
unit on the functional status of patients; in that study,
the nursing-led inpatient unit did not turn out to be
cost effective. Legood and Mcinnes (2005) showed
that high-specification foam mattresses were likely to
cost less overall and to be more effective than standard
hospital mattresses for reducing pressure ulcers.
Jester and Hicks (2003) measured joint stiffness and
patient satisfaction in primary total joint replacement
patients and found that a home care was less costly
and more effective than in-patient care.
