Monks and young novices from the Golden Horse temple in Mae Chan, 800 km (500 miles) north of Bangkok, collect alms from hill tribe villagers June 22, 2004. The monks keep over 100 horses, using them to reach remote communities in the mountainous jungle regions along Thailand border with Myanmar. They travel to villages hundreds of kilometers apart, helping to rehabilitate drug addicts in an area that was for decades a center of the regional opium and heroin trade.
