PRINCIPLES OF MOTOR DEVELOPMENT
The development and refinement of movement patterns and skills are influenced in complex ways. Both the process and product of one's movement are rooted in their unique genetic and experiential background, coupled with the specific demands of the movement task itself. Any study of motor development would be incomplete without a discussion of several of these influencing factors. The unique genetic inheritance that accounts for our individuality can also account for our similarity in many ways. One of these similarities is the trend for human development to proceed in an orderly, predictable fashion. A number of principles of motor development seem to emerge from this predictable pattern of development.
