Jeannette Wing (2006) argued that every child should learn computational
thinking, or thinking like a computer scientist (e.g., thinking logically and
systematically through the use of digital technology), in addition to reading,
writing, and arithmetic. The crux of this argument was that thinking like a
computer scientist allows children to logically break down any problem he or she
may encounter. There seems to be value in teaching the critical thinking skills
and problem-solving mindset that come with thinking like a computer scientist,
along with traditional reading, writing, and arithmetic.
