However,there are several reports showing the ability to degrade aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons by Pseudomonas sp. Whyte et al. (1997) isolated a hydrocarbon-degrading Pseudomonas sp. which degraded both alkanes and naphthalene. Mycobacterium sp. strain CH1 which can degrade pyrene was also capable of using a wide range of branched alkanes and n-alkanes as sole carbon and energy sources (Churchill et al., 1999).
