antioxidants present in plasma. The results obtained 6 h after exercise
preceded by fasting confirm that these conditions were crucial
to increases in the oxidative stress conditions, observed by both
the decrease in total antioxidant capacity (DE, FRAP and urate)
and the increase in lipid peroxidation (TBARS).
The data presented here support the use of the potentiometric
method to measure the antioxidant capacity of plasma. The potentiometric
apparatus proved to be suitable for measuring the
antioxidant capacity of plasma and the alterations induced by
exhaustive physical exercise or other physiological or pathological
situations in which oxidative stress is a relevant factor.
