A new national subsidiary has been established in Czechia by Deutsche Bahn Cargo, the freight arm of Germany’s national railway. The new entity, DB Cargo Czechia, is based in Ostrava, one of the country’s most significant industrial regions. DB Cargo now has 16 national companies in its network.
DB Cargo Czechia has already started to transport goods to Germany, Poland and Slovakia with its own locomotives and freight cars from the DB Cargo fleet.
Hans-Georg Werner, the DB Cargo’s board member for the east region, explained that, "having our own national subsidiary in Czechia provides us with competitive alternative routes for transit traffic between German ports and our Southeastern European companies in Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania.
