Fig. 7, the impact
strength of pure PLA is only 3.7 kJ/m, while that of 20 wt%
ENR20/PLA blend increases up to 6 folds, and that of 20 wt%
ENR50/PLA blend resulted in a 3 folds increase. The effectiveness
of rubber toughened plastics is controlled by many factors such
as type and blend ratio of rubber, size and shape of the rubber
phase, interfacial adhesion between rubber particles and matrix,
blending methods, processing condition, etc. Particularly, rubber
particle size and ligament thickness are critical for improving the
toughness of the blends.
