: Participants were taught how to use simple kitchen appliances to cook healthful meals (woks, Teflon-coated pans, electric stovetops, and microwaves); healthy substitutions (spices for salt, lean ground turkey for ground beef, steaming instead of frying, fresh fruit for dessert, and building a meal around a main vegetable and whole grain); planning shopping lists around meals; and including children and other family members in meal preparation."
