Lesson ADT 130
Task: Water plants.
Prerequisites: ADT 1, ADT 17, SEN 12
Concept: This simple task can provide not only a measure of independence but also help the student feel that he or she is contributing to the home or school environment. For some students, this type of activity is perceived as a reward and can later be used in that capacity.
Behavioral Objective: When requested to "please water the plants," the student will obtain a watering can, put water in the can, pour water from the can on the identified plants, and return the watering can to its appropriate place to a 9096 accuracy level for 20 consecutive trials.
Materials: A watering can and a sink.
Task Analysis:
1. Review with the student the ability to use a faucet (ADT 17) and partially fill the can
2. Physically assist the student in providing small amounts of water to the plants.
3. Reduce the physical prompting used in Step 2 to step-by-step verbal prompting.
4. Continue Step 3, reducing step-by-step prompting to a total-task verbal request, but physically remain with the student.
5. Continue Step 4, adding returning to the sink, emptying excess water, and returning the watering can to the appropriate storage place. Continue until the objective is met.
