1. Demonstrate to the student the action that is to be performed, using an oversized shirt or dress. (Note. If difficulty is noted with regular materials, a sweatshirt or thicker material may be helpful.)
2. Put the oversized shirt or dress over the student's clothes and then explain the process as she or he begins to remove the item. When removal is complete except for pulling the head through, guide the student to complete the process, using physical assistance if needed.
3. Perform Step 2 but stop when both arms have been withdrawn from the garment and assist the student in raising the garment to neck level.
4. Perform Step 3 but get student involvement to begin after only one arm has been removed.
5. Guide the student through the entire process.
6. Reduce any physical or gestural guidance that may have been necessary for any part of the process.
