Several promising
microorganisms available for consolidated bioprocessing, including
genetically engineered strains, have been reported [4].
The capability of various filamentous fungi has been explored
for the production of ethanol from biomass, such as the genera
Aspergillus, Rhizopus [5,6], Monilia [7], Neurospora [8], Fusarium [9],
Trichoderma [10] and Mucor [11]. These natural occurring fungi
may have several advantages with regard to fermentability over
the standard baker’s yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
