War and military weapons have had a very long history since the ancient age. In prehistoric era, simple technology was initially applied to the military weapon in the war. The first technological weapon used in that time was bows and spears. Bows and spears could be considered as the main weapon developed in prehistoric age and appeared in the early armies in Egypt and China. Although bows and spears seem to be the simple weapon, they could be the latest technology in that age. The recurve bow was invented in the shape of W with an improvement of elasticity. This new technology of the recurve bow had a better accuracy than before. In addition, the ancient Chinese military invented new technology of bows from bamboo sticks and stone. In the past, wars were quite normal in China since each state had a tendency to fight for the power and land. The bow and arrow were widely used in the army of ancient China and remained the major weapon for Chinese army until the late 19th century. The bows and archery made in the age of ancient China could be sharp enough to kill with a technique to ensure the stability of arrows. Another example is the technology used in the ancient Greek. The ancient Greek was another great kingdom which could invent various revolutionary technologies in the warfare. For example, catapults and giant siege engines were developed by the ancient Greek military. These inventions are the great inspiration of military weapons in the modern world. Ancient Greek had also the great development of naval military. The first trireme was invented in 700 BCE. The trireme consisted of three rows of men on each side. This allows it to be fast and well maneuverable. Another invention invented by ancient Greek was Phalanx. The Phalanx was the soldiers’ spears used to thrust out from the body. The Phalanx was so significant military technology for Athens. Both Phalanx and trireme could be recognized as the success factor behinds the victory of giant kingdom of ancient Greek.
