The edible mushroom Termitomyces heimii is an agaric-type fungus in the family Lyophyllaceae. It was first discovered in India during the late 1970s [1]. The fungus is also known as “termite mushroom” due to its symbiotic relationship with termites, insects belonging to the subfamily Macrotermitinae. These basidiomycete mushrooms are distributed throughout tropical and subtropical areas of Africa and Asia.
