Effects of dicamba and sugar on callus fresh weight
The production of callus to some extent reflected the
sensitivity to exterior culture condition. However, the
growth state of callus was either embryogenic callus
or non-embryogenic callus. A very important method
was to evaluate the fresh weight of callus per embryo.
The result showed that the callus fresh weight was greatly influenced by concentration of dicamba and
sugar type (Table 3). Mean callus fresh weight per
treatment ranged from approximately 53 to 102 mg per
embryo. The response to culture conditions differed
between genotypes. A significant difference was observed
between the two cultivars (Table 3). Zhoumai
18 surpassed Yumai 34 for callus production with the
mean callus fresh weight 89 mg per embryo produced
by Zhoumai 18 whereas Yumai 34 was 71 mg. The
value produced by Zhoumai 18 was 1.2 fold higher
than by Yumai 34 (Table 4)
