The majority of VC pigs were visually hairy and
half of the MC pigs were classified as hairy compared
to only one of the HY pigs (P < 0.001). A significant
number of VC pigs had rectal temperatures below the
reference range (P < 0.001). Very compromised pigs
were also more commonly below reference ranges for
glucose and CK values, compared to the MC and HY
pigs (both P < 0.01). Albumin results indicated significantly
more VC pigs were below the reference range
than the other 2 categories (P < 0.01), and globulin
results were also significantly different according to
category, with more VC and MC pigs within the reference
range (P < 0.05). The results from the ANOVA
are also presented in Table 3. Statistically significant
differences were identified for rectal temperature, skin
temperature, glucose, and globulin.
