The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of ankle muscle strength and flexibility on
the dolphin kick performance. To investigate this, firstly, correlations were analyzed between these
factors and the dolphin kick velocity normalized by height. Results showed that swimmers with more
dorsal flexor and internal rotator strength developed a significantly higher velocity. The plantar flexor
strength and external rotator strength, however, did not affect the velocity. So, these results confirm
our hypothesis that strength influences the dolphin kick performance.
