sampling. The use of the term competency was
popularized in The Competent Manager, which
defined the word as ban underlying characteristic
of a personQ that could be a bmotive, trait, skill,
aspect of one’s self-image or social role, or a body
of knowledge which he or she usesQ (Boyatzis, 1982,
p. 21).
