My name is Orawan Pakarat . I’m a fourth year student studying Industrial Engineering at Kasart University Si Racha campus. I’m in the Co-operative Education program which is for one semester from January until June.
I would like to introduce my senior project. My senior project’s name is “Design and Build cylinder milling CNC machine. The goal of this project is to:
1. Reduce set up working time.

2. Design a machine to produce a more complex product shape
Some products require both the milling and turning process to be produced. Because of this, we need to change the process and set up which means we lose a lot of time.
This project aims to solve this problem by combining a milling and lathe machine. First step my partner and I will design the machine with a solid work program when we can decide the pattern of the machine. The materials we will use include:
- Aluminium Profile 30 x 30
- Ball screw 15 cm, Ball screw 30 cm
- Limit sensor switches
- Bearing dimension 32 mm
- 3 jaw centering chuck dimension max 100 mm
- Die Grinder
- 3 stepping motor
- Cutting tool
- Axle
- Aluminum Flat Bar thickness 0.8 mm
- Steel thickness 3.5 cm
When we were looking for the materials, we faced some challenges. For example,
- Some materials were not easily found because we didn’t have enough information
- The orders were damaged.
But finally we were able to solve the problem. Then we started to assemble the machine. When we finished assembly we started to use the labview program to write an automatic program. We chose the labview program because this program writes with Graphical programming. It make easy to learn and it takes less time to write the program.
When we finished writing the program we will find the error of the machine and develop it.
We feel that this project can be a learning aid for the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, Industrial Engineering Laboratory and Automatic Production system.
We estimate the total expenses for this project is around 4,870 baht and included the following items:
- 2 Bearing 700
- 3 jaw centering chuck 2,460 bath
- Axle 600 bath
- Cutting tool 450 bath
- Steel thickness 3.5 cm 600 bath
We expect that the total cost will not exceed the budget
