2. Theory
Gas flowresistance exists when the gas flows through a filter paper
and/or filter cake. The resistance causes the pressure to drop, which is
in term is amajor contributor to the overall energy consumption. Cake
porosity and filtration superficial velocity in the filter system are
related in some conditions. The specific cake resistance is dependent
on the cake structure and cake formation. The dust cake itself is the
result of the collection of particulate agglomerates or dendrites on the
filter. They are also very sensitive to compression by higher gas flow
through the cake.
