T
he East Midlands joint MA/ATM branch met
at the end of the summer term 2013 for a
session entitled “Mathematical Theory of
Paper Folding”. The branch usually meets once a
term on a Saturday morning, see the ATM website
for further details, but decided that an extra ‘informal’
paper folding session held in a local hostelry would
be a good way to end the academic year. In the
event, the social setting of a side room with ample
table space, refreshments on tap, and the ‘bring and
share’ invitation for a small-group meeting all worked
very well. Participants naturally worked with others
at their table with several activities happening at any
one time. Four participants kindly agreed to write an
account of what they had done during the evening,
and these have been synthesised into the following
account.
