In 2008, Kumar [1] established an efficient plant regeneration protocol through somatic embryogenesis for safflower NARI-6. Embryogenic calli were induced from 10-17 day old cotyledon and leaf explants of in vitro seedlings. High frequency (94.3%) embryogenic callus was obtained from cotyledon explants cultured on MS basal medium supplemented with TDZ, 2-ip or IBA. Primary, secondary and cyclic somatic embryos were formed from embryogenic calli on media free of plant growth regulators, 100% cyclic somatic embryogenesis was obtained from cotyledon derived embryogenic calli cultured on MS basal medium. Somatic embryos matured and germinated in 1/4 MS medium supplemented with GA3.
