The Door staff’s most important function, as we see it, is to serve as the guaranteed first contact of an arriving guest and to impress upon them what their stay will involve. The goal is that the door staff gives guests the impression that “we are at your service, we are alert to your needs, we are professional, we are friendly and our image is impeccable.” Unfortunately, this goal is too often not only not met but negated by the doormen we encounter. Leaning, arms folded of doormen involved with personal conversations with co-workers is less than inviting to arriving guests.
