Following the hydrolysis reactor, a screw press removes the solids that have not been converted (so-called hydrolysis lignin) from the liquid sugar solution (mash). The mash is then sent for
alcoholic fermentation and the hydrolysis lignin is washed with water to remove remaining sugars. Following that, the solids are separated again using a filter press with w = 50% and the liquid filtrate is recycled to the dilution of the fibers.
