In China, PE prices were stable to softer over the past week even as spot ethylene costs continued to rise, keeping spot prices for HDPE, LDPE and LLDPE film close to par with ethylene, according to data from ChemOrbis Price Index. "Stronger ethylene has not been able to push PE prices higher as demand remains limited in the face of slower than expected economic growth. Chinese banks are more hesitant to give loans these days and this has also restricted demand," a distributor commented. A trader offering South Korean LDPE film at $1125/ton CFR and Saudi Arabian HDPE film at $1075/ton with the same terms stated, "PE demand remains sluggish as economic growth has slowed and there are not many converters who have been able to expand their business this year.
