imaginary, all the societies are to be classified as prismatic at various levels of ‘low’ ‘middle’and high words have no relevance. Riggs’ models are mostly based on certain assumptions. But in the absence of empirical evidence the validity of such assumptions are highly questionable. Daya Krishna mainly directs his attack with a view to examine how far the Riggs’ models are useful to analyse the development processes and points out that his prismatic model serves no purpose to find out the stages in the process of development. When change is inevitable in any society, according to Daya Krishna, Riggs’ diffracted model is impracticable. Diffracted society represents the equilibrium state and stands tor the stability and preservation of the system. To Daya Krishna diffracted society is not a desirable society.
