Many of the Bcl-2 family members have been implicated
in the regulation of cell death in the nervous system. Overexpression
of Bcl-2 in cell culture and in transgenic mice
increases resistance of neurons to death during development
(Martinou et al., 1994), and protects from apoptosis induced
by excitotoxic, metabolic and oxidative insults relevant to
AD, stroke and other disorders
