Consumer prices in Thailand rose 0.34 percent year-on-year in October of 2016, following a 0.38 percent increase in September. It was the seventh straight month of increase and below market consensus of a 0.43 percent gain. Upward prices pressure came from food (+0.89 percent from +1.47 percent). In contrast, cost declined by 0.12 percent for non-food categories (from -0.28 percent). Core consumer prices rose 0.74 percent from a year earlier, compared to a 0.75 percent gain in August. On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.16 percent, compared to a 0.04 percent rise in the prior month. It was the highest reading since May. Inflation Rate in Thailand averaged 4.30 percent from 1977 until 2016, reaching an all time high of 24.56 percent in June of 1980 and a record low of -4.38 percent in July of 2009.
