Some non-native teachers reported that many students in second language classes resented being taught by a non-native teacher until they were able to prove that they could be as effective as a native English teacher (Maum, 2002). In reality, speaking more than one language provides non-native teachers awareness of language and relates
their ability to students‟ needs
(Canagarajah, 1996; Phillipson, 1992). Therefore, speaking different English accent does not mean that non-native teachers are not qualified to be second language teachers.
