A survey was developed to assess the extent of HIT use and, specifically, the adoption and implementation of EHRs by office-based physicians. The survey was developed using prior work by the authors and an extensive literature search of existing instruments that measured HIT use .The survey was pilot tested in a small group(n=4) of physicians to assess the face and content validity of the questions. Feedback from the pilot group was obtained through interviews, and his or her suggestions were subsequently incorporated into the final survey before mass distribution.
