The surface morphology of samples was analyzed by SEM-EDS in order to evaluate the cell growth and adhesion to the ceramics surface. After incubation for 24 h and 7, 14 and 21 days, the samples were removed from the culture well, rinsed with PBS and fixed with 3% glutaraldehyde in a 0.1 M cacodylate buffer for 1.5 h at 4 °C. Then they were rinsed and post-fixed in osmium tetroxide for 1 h, before being dehydrated through increasing concentrations of ethanol (30, 50, 70 and 90 vol.%) with final dehydratation in absolute alcohol. After this, they were dried by the critical-point method and palladium coated and examined by SEM-EDS.
