Functionally,the aspects of energy metabolism affected in the liver are likely
to be similar for both materials given that the types of pathology
are similar. For example, the decrease in hepatocyte diameter rel-
ative to nuclei diameter suggests (with both substances) that liver
cells are more metabolically active, and the increased presence
of melanomacrophage deposits supports
this notion as they are known to be involved with recycling of endogenous materials from
damaged cells (Haaparanta et al., 1996).
