Thus, a mucosal immune response initiated in an inductive
site (e.g., Peyer’s patch in the intestine) would result in the
generation of activated mucosal immunocytes, which then leave
the inductive site through the lymph and enter the circulation to
populate distant mucosal sites such as the lacrimal gland, where
they differentiate into memory or effector IgA-producing plasma
cells [7–9].
