Materials and Methods
A 337-m2 round pond (design discussed
in Wyban and Sweeney 1991) was stocked
with 2.2 g (SD 2 0.7) juvenile L. vannamei
at a density of 50 shrimp/m2. The shrimp
were random representatives from 79 families
produced from 65 dams and 74 sires.
These dams and sires were randomly selected
from the highest ranking families
from a selection index weighted 50% for
TSV resistance and 50% for growth rate to
market. Juvenile shrimp were tagged with
a fluorescent elastomer internal tag to identify
the 79 families (Godin et al. 1996). After
15 wk in the round pond, 14,000 market
shrimp (a = 21.7 g 2 5.2(SD)) were harvested
