Hollywood has turned their eye to the old fairy tales. Jack the Giant Slayer adds more to the original story of Jack and the beanstalk, giving us a romance element as well as an evil antagonist bent on his own agenda. There is a surprising amount of death in this movie, but it retains its 13A rating by not showing the gore; cutting away to show the reactions of the other characters. A good thing if you have young children watching.
Directed by Bryan Singer, you just know it’s going to be filled with action, and it is. The fast paced movie keeps you attention with either the action or the tension; will Ewan McGregor be eaten? How will the giants retaliate after their escape? Speaking of Ewan McGregor, the actor has some of the best lines, and delivers them with perfect timing.
