3.3. Effect of acute ethanol intake on plasma TBARS levels
Plasma TBARS levels were significantly increased in ethanol-treated rats (21.1 ± 1.4 nmol/ml, n = 5) compared with control rats (14.7 ± 1.3 nmol/ml, n = 7). Treatment with vitamin C prevented the increase in TBARS levels induced by ethanol (12.6 ± 1.6 nmol/ml, n = 9) (p < 0.05, two-way ANOVA). Treatment of control rats with vitamin C did not alter plasma TBARS levels (13.7 ± 1.0 nmol/ml, n = 9).
