Do you have a dog or a cat? Do you think your pet sometimes looks happy or excited when you come home? Does it seem sad when you leave the house? Does your pet really have emotions? Experts do not agree on the answer. Some experts say that we humans are giving our human emotions to animals. We can't know how the animals actually feel. But more and more experts think animals do have emotions. They are studying how animal brains are like human brains. Many people believe that animals can show that they are happy, frightened, or angry. People who study animals say, for example, that elephants show joy when a new baby elephant is born. The elephants show sadness when a close member of the herd dies. When the members later pass the place the elephant died, they pause. Some scientists say that animals like dolphins and monkeys seem to enjoy playing in groups.
