The green-ripening of 20% CO
treated bananas appeared
not due to the inactivation of the Chl degradation key genes
by the high CO
2
2
atmosphere. We further investigated the
other ripening and senescence parameters during the fruit
ripening.
The respiration peaks were detected on 3 and 4 d after
ethylene treatment for the control bananas and plantains
respectively, with the peak values around 50 mg h
fresh weight (FW) for both cultivars. In the treated fruits, the
peaks were detected earlier with higher values as compared
to the controls. The peaks occurred on 2 d and reached
around 90 mg h
–1
kg
–1
FW for both cultivars (Fig. 4-A, B).
