A core aspect of Tantra is the equivalence or union of the macrocosm and the microcosm.
Macrocosm means the universe at large, specifically divine powers or deities that rule over the universe.
The microcosm means the individual self—the human body.
In Tantric ritual one strives to bring the divine presence into one’s own body. In this way, one unites the macrocosm (divine universe) and microcosm (oneself).
Now we will consider some of the early or traditional practices of Tantra as practiced in northeastern India from around 5th century CE on. We will then look further at present-day case studies of Tantra and divine embodiment.
