Freshman Applicants
Minimum High School Course Preparation
4 years of native language
3 years of mathematics (including beginning algebra, geometry and advanced algebra)
3 years of science (including one year each of two of the following: biology, chemistry, or physics)
2 years of social studies [3 years for applicants to our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS)]
Applicants to majors in the LAS and Engineering colleges must have 2 years of a single foreign
language (English may be used).
Minimum academic requirements
Applicant must have a B- or 2.7 (out of a 4.0) cumulative grade point average in academic subjects at
secondary level (Matayom 6). (If your school grades on a percentage system, 67% would be
considered comparable to a B-.) The following subjects are not included in the CGPA: character
development, work and occupational education, music, home economics, and physical education.
Students who do not meet the CGPA requirement above but who rank in the top half of their high
school graduating class will be given consideration upon receipt of their official rank from the school.
SAT and ACT
Neither the SAT or ACT is not required for admission to Iowa State for students educated in nonAmerican
patterned high schools.
Transfer Applicants
Minimum academic requirements
A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 out of a possible 4.00 in all transferable courses is
required for engineering applicants; a 2.30 is the minimum for applicants to other majors.
Global Assessment Certificate: Iowa State awards transfer credit for the completed GAC program
provided students meet the above GPA requirement.
