An outbreak of rubella in an industrial park in Binh Duong, has grown since it began in early January. Over 25 people have been infected and many more are suspected. The disease is caused by a contagious virus that spreads from person-to-person via infected droplets. Common symptoms include fever, tender lymph nodes and a characteristic rash. Although it is generally a mild disease, its effects can be devastating to the fetus if a pregnant woman is infected. Rubella can be prevented by vaccination and is a part of routine childhood immunisation programs in most countries.
