Protest students released after military court order
The 14 New Democracy Movement students have been released after spending 12 days in jail.
Post Today reports that the release took place at 5:45 this (Wednesday) morning.
One student leader, Rangsiman Rome sounded defiant, however. He was quoted byPost Today as saying this was only the first step in their fight. All are in high spirits, he said. He said his group would now hold consultations on what to do next. He denied that any outside group was behind his movement.
Release Wednesday morning
The 14 detained New Democracy Movement students are spending one more night in jail before being freed early tomorrow morning.
Aryut Sinthopphan, the warden of Bangkok Remand Prison, said on Tuesday that the students were put in detention on June 26 and they would complete the first 12-day detention period at midnight tonight.
Therefore, they were expected to be released about 6am on Wednesday, he said.
Thirteen male students will be released from Bangkok Remand Prison and the only female student in the group from the Central Women's Correctional Institution.
