Conceptualising discourses as frames, or as problem definitions, has
also been popular in conflict research due to frame theory's ability to explain
the role of actors' perceptions regarding the nature of the conflict
in rendering the situation more or less intractable (Gray, 2003; Putnam
and Wondolleck, 2003; Saarikoski, 2006; Schön and Rein, 1994). Since
the purpose of this paper is to apply DI to conflict management analysis,
I will build on the work already done in conflict research and turn in the
following chapter to the literature on discourses as frames.
