Our results differ to some extent from previous studies. One study
reported a 33% increase in the number of active participants, but
their intervention worked best in already active participants.10
Another study described a similar baseline activity level (66%
meeting recommendations for 150 minutes a week of moderate
intensity physical activity) and their intervention also worked best
for initially less active participants.28 This study used a goal-setting
intervention using pedometers supported by e-mails similar to the
physical activity part of our study. Our study also found a higher
increase in fruit and vegetable consumption when compared to
