The Alcohol Use Disorders Identifi cation Test (AUDIT) was
developed by Barbor et al.19 and validated for Brazilian samples
by Lima et al.20. It assesses harmful alcohol use and dependence
in the previous year. Eight points or more were used as a case
cutoff point (harmful use); scores between eight and 15 points
were considered mild cases; and scores of 16 points or higher
were considered severe cases (high risk consumption)1
