It is also clear from the UKCC Code of Conduct (UKCC 1992) that, as nurses, we should not harm our patient
(Clause 2) or carry out activities we are not competent to fulfil (Clause 4). It is essential, therefore, that we
ensure capillary blood sampling is carried out in a safe and accurate manner, and we cannot afford to be
complacent. The process of good capillary blood sampling will incorporate adherence to local policies and
current legislation.
