A serious threat to public health worldwide consist in theconsiderable increase in infections caused by resistant Gram-negative bacteria, including multidrug-resistant Pseudomonasaeruginosa and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, partic-ularly Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae (Kaye and Pogue,2015).
