Previous studies showed that iodide has a good affinity to adsorbon gold nanoparticles surface [52], even more, iodide or iodine canetch/fragmentize/fuse gold nanoparticles to other shapes [53,54].The sharp corners of silver TNPs have higher chemical activity that can be etched gradually by other molecules [55] or higher tem-perature [56], and therefore, results in a blue-shift of the in-planedipole plasmon resonance absorption peak [57]. However, in this study, the in-plane dipole plasmon resonance absorption peak ofsilver TNPs did not shift but directly decrease and disappear in the presence of iodide. Thus, we deduced that the plates of silver TNPswere directly destroyed or frused by adsorbed iodide.
